Nicole Georgas, a parent in Deerfield Public Schools District 109, revealed her complaint during last week’s Board of Education meeting. She claims that school administrators attempted to force her 13-year-old daughter to change clothes in front of a transgender student in the girls’ locker room.
Welcome back to Headline Files.
In Illinois, a mother has filed a civil rights complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice following an incident at a local middle school involving locker room policies and student privacy.
The first clip you heard was President Donald Trump telling school districts how they could be at risk for investigation and loss of funding.
The following two clips came from a board of education meeting, one of which was Illinois mother, Nicole Georgas.
Georgas, a parent in Deerfield Public Schools District 109, revealed her complaint during last week’s Board of Education meeting. She claims that school administrators attempted to force her 13-year-old daughter to change clothes in front of a transgender student in the girls’ locker room.
The mother said the incident occurred last month during a physical education class. She states that her daughter chose not to change into her gym uniform because a biological male student, who identifies as female, was present in the locker room at the time.
At the Board of Education meeting, Georgas emphasized her concerns about student privacy and parental rights, stating that she was not informed in advance about the school's locker room policy regarding transgender students.
As of now, Deerfield Public Schools District 109 has not publicly commented on the specific allegations made by Georgas. However, like many school districts in Illinois, District 109 is subject to state and federal laws, including the Illinois Human Rights Act and Title IX, both of which prohibit discrimination based on gender identity.
The Department of Justice has not yet issued a public statement regarding the complaint or indicated whether they plan to open an investigation.
This story is part of an ongoing national conversation about how schools balance transgender rights with privacy concerns raised by parents and students. We will continue to monitor the situation and report updates as they develop.
